Attractions:
You are in the Perigord Vert Region so named because of the greenery of the forests and meadows. Thiviers is known as the capital of Foie Gras, a delicious speciality of the region and not to be missed.

A Regional highlight is the beautiful town of Brantome (27km) and its Benedictine abbey, built by Charlemagne in 769. Here you can hire a canoe (book in advance) and enjoy this lovely stretch of the river. There is a busy outdoor market on Fridays.

Near to Brantome is the "most beautiful village" of St-Jean-de Cole and also the attractive village of Bourdeilles.

Nearby Chateaux include the Chateau de Jumilhac, the Chateau de Bourdeilles, and Chateau de Puyguilhem.

On the outskirts of Perigueux at Trélissac (29km) there are Hypermarkets (eg. LeClerc) and shopping precincts. Then there is Perigueux itself, with its large stores and boutiques and not forgetting the delightful old town with it's beautiful cathedral.

A little further, 75km, is the amazing village of Aubeterre sur Dronne which has a church hewn out of rock (excavations began in the fifth century) and is counted amongst the "most beautiful villages" in France.
